WORLD CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a ride......thanks to the Sox for such an awesome season, to my fellow Sox fans for making the whole thing so fun, and to my wife for putting up with all the yelling and screaming in our living room (she does like Varitek and Beckett though)....

Which to buy first.........

So the big news out here that was just let out of the bag is that Karen and I are going to be parents. Scary, I know. You can read Karen's side of the story here. As for my side of how it went down.....it's pretty brief, actually.

We were in Europe in June for our last-hurrah trip before I start b-school. But seeing that b-school is 3 years for me, the reality of it was that we would be starting our family too, so our little blast through Europe was probably going to be the last time we'd ever get to travel there for quite some time. Well, until I get a job in London at least. Anyway, in the last stop of our trip, I noticed that Karen was avoiding alcoholic drinks. Now, in Europe, beer and wine are cheaper than soda and they really don't serve much tap water so for most meals, you drink beer, wine, or bottled water. On top of that, the beer and wine are really good so it's always a nice complement to your meal. Anyway, we were at this German brewery/restaurant and we ordered this massive glass of beer mixed with some fresh peach juice (a great combination). Karen had a little, but not too much. I kept asking her if she wanted some, since I seemed to be drinking more of it. She said no, and being the sensitive, gracious guy I am, my first reaction was "great....more for me!".

Fast forward to our home in Torrance.....Karen came home from work one day. I was already home, doing something upstairs. I heard the garage door close, and her rumbling around downstairs. Normally she comes upstairs to change clothes, but a fair bit of time passed and I wondered where she was. So I went downstairs and she emerged from the bathroom with a shocked, surprised look on her face. I'm thinking "dude, did you fall in the toilet or something?" or "was there a really big bug on the wall?". She walked over to the dining table and put down two plastic sticks. At first I thought they were those digital thermometers, but then wondered why there would be two. She handed them to me, and I saw some lines on them. Then, it clicked. "that's great", I said. And, my typically narrow male mind instantly conjured up images of taking my kid to their first red sox game, giving them their first lacrosse and/or hockey stick, and brainwashing them to love the 49ers, Bruins, and English soccer. Karen, on the other hand, was thinking of the weirdness that the next 37 - 40 weeks that "the alien" would wreak upon her existence, and was justifiably freaked out.

But Karen still didn't believe the results of the tests - so she gave me the third and final pregnancy test in the box and told me to try it on the off chance that all three tests in the box may all have been defective. I took the small plastic device in my hand, turned toward the bathroom and - heck no. I ain't peeing on no stick.....gave it back.

I would say that the thought of being a dad is both incredibly exciting but very scary at the same time. While it's a huge responsibility to raise and nuture a child, there are so many things that I really look forward too.

In other news, b-school starts in a couple of weeks. I have this binder sitting around at home that contains a ton of tiny-print articles about leadership and motivation and all that sort of stuff that i haven't touched yet. Procrastinating already - bad news.

I also started a new job here at Disney. I'm now a Product Manager in charge of promotional pricing and ticket products. It's a really interesting job, and I get to see the marketing/sales side of the company much much more, which is better for me. I like the job a lot so far - I have a nice, big 24 inch monitor to look at all my geeky spreadsheets with and one of those cool earpiece things so I don't have to hold the phone when I talk.

With all of the changes that are going on, I sadly had to say goodbye to working with HS Fellowship at church. It's been a huge part of my life for the past 7-8 years, and it's something I will dearly miss. Tomorrow is my last Friday with the group....can't really believe it's come so quickly.

Goodbye, fun....hello, leadership theory

This weekend saw end of my team's roller hockey season. Unfortunately, although we were probably one of the better teams in the league, we didn't make the playoffs. We were missing a lot of people for many games in the middle of our schedule which meant we had 2 subs on the bench for some games, meaning we got *tired* and FAST.

It was pretty sad for me, because this is probably going to be my last roller hockey season in a long time since I'll have class on Saturday mornings. Some of my teammates are playing in a higher division, but those games are on, you guessed it...Monday nights. Yup, class. It's sad because I had a great team, and this was my best season so far. I had 6 goals in 8 games and really got used to playing with my teammates. So much of hockey is anticipating where your teammates are going to be and what they are going to do, so that's a big deal.

I have this white binder sitting on the table at home, filled with articles about leadership and behavioral mumbo jumbo that I have to get through before b-school starts.

-----------

In happier news....guess where I'll be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night this week? Watching this guy....among others.....
